Crowdstrike shares plummeted on Friday due to a global IT outage, with stock dropping as much as 20% in premarket trading before stabilizing at a 12% loss. The outage, linked to a defect in a Windows content update, disrupted major services worldwide, including airports, banks, supermarkets, and emergency services. Microsoft shares also dipped but recovered to trade mostly flat.

The London Stock Exchange experienced technical issues, affecting company updates but not trading. CrowdStrike's CEO confirmed the problem was identified and fixed, emphasizing it was not a security breach. Analyst Dan Ives noted the incident's negative impact on CrowdStrike's reputation but maintained a positive long-term outlook on the stock and cybersecurity sector. Microsoft acknowledged ongoing mitigation efforts.

The US Air Force announced that Massachusetts Air National Guard member Jack Teixeria will face a military court-martial. Teixeira has already pled guilty to sharing military secrets on Discord, and his lawyers argue that this new round of court-martial is trying him twice for the same crime.

This dissemination of secret and top secret documents became one of the biggest national security leaks in recent history. The information included intelligence about Russian troop movements in Ukraine.

The Trump shooting takes on a cybersecurity twist, as the FBI announced it cracked the shooter’s cell phone in 40 minutes. With help from Israeli firm Cellebrite, the FBI now has access to a tremendous amount of personal information as they investigate the shooter’s motivation.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, shot at former President Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13th. Crooks was shot dead by the Secret Service within minutes. On Thursday, reports emerged that pictures of both President Joe Biden and Trump were found on the phone.
